Dr. James Vandermeulen – 6th Grade

Dr. James M. Vandermeulen, PhD graduated from Grand Valley State University in Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology/Group Science.  He taught middle school science in the Grand Rapids public schools while working on his Master’s Degree in Education Administration, which he earned at Michigan State University.  While he was Assistant Professor of Education at Wheaton College, he directed the Student Teaching Program, taught various classes in the Education Department, and co-authored the Illinois Educational Guidelines for pre-student teaching clinical experiences. During those same years he completed his doctoral studies and eventually earned his PhD in Curriculum and Policy Development from Michigan State University.

“Dr. Van” participated in track and cross country and has enjoyed coaching at the high school and college levels in those sports. He has served as Headmaster of two Christian academies for a number of years, Vice-President of Judson University, and middle school Science Teacher at Wheaton Christian Grammar School. While there he was able to raise the students’ SAT scores significantly by teaching a rigorous science curriculum. Dr. Vandermeulen holds an Illinois Type 75 Administrator Certification, Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Science Teacher Certification, and permanent middle and high school Science Teaching Certification in the state of Michigan. Dr. Van continues to upgrade his skills via inservice education, NSTA conferences and post-doctoral work at Harvard University.
